Seasoned actress Omuhle Gela raised eyebrows this week when she debuted as Nomaswazi on Uzalo and kidnapped Sibonelo in the SABC1 soapie.
Gela got her acting break as James Mutsamai’s (Dingaan Mokebe) and Doobsie’s daughter Busi in Muvhango 12 years ago
PLAYING NOMASWAZI IN ‘UZALO’
Actress and businesswoman Omuhle Gela joined SABC1’s Uzalo as Sibonelo’s lover Nomaswazi- a smart and calculating woman who moves stealthily.
She will rescue Sibonelo (Wiseman Mncube) – who was kidnapped and stabbed by her mother Njinji played by Isibaya actress Thembi Nyandeni.
Nomaswazi will put herself at risk by helping him get what he wants so that she can get her rightful place at the table as a leader.
“She’s like a chameleon if I can describe her, she’s very unpredictable. She’s feisty and well educated. She’s not really what the viewers think, she’s not a darling. I don’t want to reveal too much.”
“She’s very different from me, she’s not afraid to put herself in a dangerous position to prove her point to her family. She’s very daring, I wouldn’t do half the things she does,” she says.
She also tells Drum that it’s been challenging shooting in different provinces as Uzalo is shot in Durban and she’s based in Johannesburg.
“The past few months have been tricky, but we are starting to get the hang of things, but I won’t lie it’s been very hectic. The environment has been welcoming, and the cast members are easy to work with.”
OMUHLE GELA’S PREVIOUS ROLES
The model tells the publication that she just wrapped up shooting Mzansi Magic’s Umbuso where she played the character of Xola, and says it’s refreshing to play Nomaswazi.
“I’ve had similar roles, and it’s a bit refreshing and shocking for the audience to see me portray a far more different character than the ones I’ve portrayed before.”
She’s famously known for her character in Muvhango where she played James Motsamai and Doobsie’s daughter Busi.
