Fear, the devil’s go to :IT IS WRITTEN

Usually, I feel that the Lord is saying something to me when a scripture gets repeated in various ways. That always gets my attention!

However, there are times that I experience a deep breakthrough of sorts when He speaks through a dream.

“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and  daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.”

    Acts 2:17 (NIV)

John 14:26 (NIV) “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

    THE CALL FOR HELP

A few years ago, I was going through a particularly difficult season, which didn’t abate for some  years. Overwhelming circumstances were piling up, which led to exhaustion and gradually a spirit of  fear seemed to take hold of me.

I repeatedly cried out to the Lord for help, and one night I had a dream:

I was lying on a thin black mat, feeling completely paralysed due to a strong electromagnetic pull of  sorts. I couldn’t lift my head (or even my little finger) but saw someone in the distance that looked like a “good father” that I knew. I called for help, and the Father came over to me and touched my hand, and the powerful force-field was broken. I stood up and as I gazed into His tender, compassionate eyes. He told me that the name of the mat was FEAR! As I turned, I realised that this  was just a flimsy, powerless mat that had a false hold over me. He told me I could just throw it  away! As I tossed it away, I awoke.

Since that dream, the fear and anxiety left me, and though the circumstances took a while to abate, I no longer felt paralysed and unable to cope.

Fear is one of the devil’s greatest tactics. He wields this weapon with skillful mastery, cloaked in lies  and deception! In fact, there is a wonderful acronym which clarifies this:

    • Fear
    • Evidence
    • Appearing
    • Real

The shield of faith (Ephesians 6:16) is part of the defensive weaponry God has provided for us as  armor to protect ourselves from these lies. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence  of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). He has promised that no weapon forged against us will prosper  (Isaiah 54:17), so we need to learn to trust Him for this.

The helmet of salvation (Ephesians 6:17) covers our head. We need to continually guard our minds, reminding ourselves that we are His beloved children, and our names are written in the lamb’s book of life. He is the ultimate victor, and He will never leave, nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8).

Therefore, we have this deep assurance that He is at work behind the scenes working all things  together for our good (Romans 8:28)! He’s got this – our part is to believe!

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the  contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”

    2 Corinthians 10:4 (NIV)

We need to know/believe that it is NEVER the will of our Father to leave us defeated and depleted! NEVER!!

    BREAK THROUGH THE FEAR

My breakthrough finally came through the “fear mat” dream where He reassured me of His  comforting presence.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

    John 16:33 (NIV)

Oh, what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry, everything to God in prayer.

    PRAYER

Father, thank you for being so patient with us.

You are both willing and able to help us, yet we keep reverting to our default mode instead of  surrendering all to you.

Help us to keep focusing on you we pray in Jesus’ name.

    Amen
