In the past few weeks, whispers about a possible ANC-EFF coalition in the 2024 Elections have been circulating. That’s largely thanks to statements made by Julius Malema – and the Red Berets now appear more open than ever to propping-up the ruling party.
EFF meet with the KZN ANC – what’s the deal?
Despite various threats made against the ANC and its leaders over the years, the far-left party seem to be softening their rhetoric. During a recent media briefing, Juju identified a reformed version of the organisation – potentially led by Paul Mashatile – would be worthy of EFF support.
Malema and his comrades now see John Steenhuisen and the DA as the biggest threat to SA. Should the ANC elect a different leader to Cyril Ramaphosa, it’s likely that the EFF will let bygones be bygones and join a coalition with the party, if they get less than 50% of the vote.
It’s amid this backdrop that the EFF’s latest political engagement has taken place. Indeed, tongues certainly are wagging. Floyd Shivambu and Marshall Dlamini formed part of a delegation which met with the senior representatives of the KZN ANC.
2024 Elections: Taliban talks put political opponents on high alert
Chairperson Siboniso Duma and Secretary Bheki Mtolo were invited the EFF HQ, where political developments in the province – and the state of municipalities in the KZN – topped the agenda. It all looked very jovial and comradely…
The KZN ANC leadership, who have dubbed themselves ‘The Taliban‘, are born of the RET faction within the governing party. Staunchly opposed to Cyril Ramaphosa, the pro-Zuma movement aligns itself closely with socialist and Marxist politics.
But is a partnership with the EFF a match made in heaven, or hell? Only time will tell…
