BREAKING: Nomusa Dube-Ncube announced new KZN Premier

KZN Finance MEC, Nomusa Dube-Ncube has been announced as the new Premier of KwaZulu-Natal following Sihle Zikalala’s resignation last week.

Dube-Ncube who has served in various departments was up against Mbali Frazer and Amanda Bani.

ANC KZN Chairperson, Siboniso Duma said they have faith that Dube-Ncube will be able to deal with issues of service delivery.

“She will be able to address imbalances of the past, especially regarding the emancipation of women from all walks of life,” Duma said.

When asked about why none of the newly elected ANC KZN leadership, they said none of them were ready for such a big role and would rather have someone who is more experienced.

ANC KZN Deputy Chairperson, Nomagugu Simelane said as a province they are way behind time on having female leaders.

“As the province we needed to make sure that female leaders are given the opportunity to lead because they have the capacity and have proven themselves. So when the opportunity presented itself it was only fair that a female takes over,” Simelane said.

We have manage to gather some information on the new Premier:

Dube-Ncube previously served as the Mayor of the North Central Local Council before this local authority of Durban was amalgamated with several others to form what is now a bigger municipality known as the eThekwini Municipality (Durban).

Subsequent to that, she was appointed the Speaker of the Municipality. After a remarkable term as the Speaker, the ANC redeployed her to serve as Ambassador to the Czech Republic.

After that, she was appointed back home to serve as Chief Whip of the African National Congress in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature. Parallel to that, she was appointed as the Deputy Provincial Secretary of the African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal. She is currently serving as the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs

    • Dube-Ncube holds a Diploma in Public Management from the Durban University of Technology
    • Diploma in Management & Leadership from the University of KwaZulu-Natal
    • Diploma in Training & Development from the University of KwaZulu-Natal
    • Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of KwaZulu-Natal
