Brother rapes little sister after parents leave for the weekend

A scared 15-year-old girl was threatened to unlock her bedroom door by her brother. But once she did, the 29-year-old brother proceeded to rape her on her bed.

BROTHER RAPES LITTLE SISTER WHEN THEY WERE HOME ALONE

This happened on a weekend when the parents were gone for several days, leaving the brother alone with his little sister in Kimberley, Northern Cape.

On 13 March last year, the brother was hanging out at a petrol station. When his sister approached him at around 23h00 that night, he yelled at her and told her to go back home.

“The victim went home, put on her pyjamas to sleep and locked herself inside the bedroom,” police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said.

The brother eventually returned home and aggressively started knocking on his sister’s bedroom door. He threatened to break down the door if she refused to open it, said Tawana.

“The victim opened the door and found the accused standing in front of the door. The accused forced entry into the victim’s bedroom, pushed her on the bed and raped her.”

The brother was eventually arrested for the rape. He remained in police custody ever since, until the finalisation of the trial, as the investigating officer successfully opposed bail.

He was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment on a count of rape on Thursday by the Postmasburg Regional Court.

The court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm. He is further ordered for his name to be registered in the National Sexual Offences Register, said Tawana.

The Northern Cape provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Otola commended the National Prosecuting Authority and the Department of Justice for resolving to put the rapist in prison for life.

“The sentence shall serve as a deterrence to those who perpetuate the scourge of gender-based violence and also to restore confidence of the public in the justice system,” Otola said.
