    Durban police need assistance finding a dead pedestrian’s family

    Police in Durban needs the public’s assistance in locating the family or relatives of a pedestrian who was struck by a truck on the N3 freeway in Pinetown after the Spine Road Bridge.


    According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, on 16  May 2022 at 16:15, a 50-year-old man was crossing the road on the N3 freeway in Pinetown when he was struck by a truck. 

    “The pedestrian sustained multiple injuries and was declared dead on the scene,”

    said Gwala.

    A case of culpable homicide has since been opened at Westville police station for investigation.

    The clothes the man was wearing were blue pants, a blue jacket, a grey jacket and a checked shirt. 

    Police are appealing to anyone who may have information regarding the family or relatives to contact Detective Sergeant Mlambo on 072 032 6700/ 031 267 7347.

    Meanwhile, Asanda Mkhize (6) went missing after school two weeks ago in Clermont, Durban, and her dismembered body was found at Bronze Beach in uMhlanga on Tuesday.

    The little girl was last seen on 17 May by her teacher leaving her classroom at Tshelihle Primary School in Clermont.

    Several members of the community and the family began searching for the child and posted posters in the community and on social media.

    Gwala said the body of the victim was identified this week at the mortuary.

    “It is alleged that an unknown body of a child was found floating at uMhlanga Bronze Beach on 23 May 2022 at 16:50, “

    said Gwala.

    She further said the circumstances of her death were being investigated by the Durban North SAPS.


    In a separate incident, 26-year-old mother from Bunganeni area in Umhlabuyalingana, KwaZulu-Natal, is under police guard in hospital after she allegedly killed her two children and drank poison on Monday.

    The mother allegedly gave her nine-year-old son a poisonous substance to drink, while the one-year-old son was strangled to death with a fence wire. 

    According to Gwala, it is alleged that the mother attempted to kill herself by drinking a poisonous substance but was found alive and is in hospital under police guard.
