An off-duty female constable from the Table Bay Harbour police station has been gunned down by unknown suspects in Leiden, Delft, on the outskirts of Cape Town.

According to police, the incident happened on Tuesday night. At this stage, the motive for the shooting is unclear. Western Cape police spokesperson brigadier Novela Potelwa confirmed police are investigating the female officer’s murder, saying the details of the incident are still sketchy.
Female officer ambushed by suspects
“Eyewitnesses indicate that the female officer was standing in front of her residence with three other people [when the incident occurred]. Unknown assailants appeared and fired several shots.
“Police are investigating a case of murder which detectives from the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) have taken over. Police have not made any arrests as yet.”

Potelwa said police will only release the slain female officer’s identity after they have notified her next of kin.
Cape Town railway cop shot and killed near Philippi
In another incident, a 49-year-old Rapid Rail Unit police officer was shot and killed in Nyanga, Cape Town, on Wednesday, 1 June.
Potelwa said unknown suspects shot the officer through the window while driving to the Philippi railway station. He died on the scene.
“Crime scene experts combed the scene in Ngulube Street, Browns Farm. The DCPI is investigating a case of murder. Police, meanwhile, are calling on the public for information about the shooting. They can also contact the police via Crime Stop at 086 001 0111 or use the My SAPS app.”
The South African Police Service (SAPS) management led the burial service for warrant officer Mphakhathi in the Mncuncuzo Locality in Cofimvaba, Eastern Cape, at the weekend.
