JMPD: “We don’t issue reflective jackets like this”

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has defended its Unit after distinguishing a difference between a reflective jacket clad by a Metro Police Officer allegedly soliciting a bribe from a taxi driver.

JMPD JUMPS IN TO CORRECT TWEEPS ABOUT THEIR UNIFORM

A video has been making rounds on social media of a man wearing a Metro Police reflective jacket having small talk with a taxi driver. However, at a quick glance, many were convinced that the man shown in the video was a JMPD officer.

The officer in a confusing reflective jacket is seen exchanging hands with the taxi driver and seconds later is seen stumbling while he walks away after collecting an item from the operator driving a white old model taxi.

However, JMPD commented on the tweet to put perspective on the matter. The page’s Admin refuted the allegations by picking out the reflect jacket.

“JMPD does not issue reflective jackets like this, check your facts before publication,” the Twitter admin warned.

“There are two other Metropolitan Police Departments in Gauteng Province there’s Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).”

COMPLAINANTS ASKED TO COME FORWARD AND REPORT CORRUPT OFFICIALS

JMPD went on to say this matter is still under internal investigation, and no complainant has come forward.

“How can we identify if he’s not one of our own?” JMPD asked.
“That’s why we encourage those who bring this to the attention of law enforcement to also share the date, time and location, this will eliminate any room for assumptions and it will make it easier to bring the culprit to book,” admin added.

“The department has requested the individual who recorded this video to come forward and clarify the context or circumstances of why the officer received that money,” urged JMPD.

    This is a developing story.
