    JUST IN: Student-teacher shot in the head at Durban school

    A student-teacher is in a critical condition after he was shot in the head at a Durban school on Tuesday morning just after 8:00.

    THE STUDENT-TEACHER WAS SHOT AT THE SCHOOL

    According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, the shooting happened at a school in the Newlands West area of Durban.

    “Just after 08:00 am on Tuesday morning, Emer-G-Med paramedics, together with Netcare911, responded to the scene of a shooting incident at a school in the Newlands West area of Durban.”

    He said on arrival that a man, who is a student-teacher, was found lying on the roadway next to a vehicle.

    STUDENT-TEACHER WAS FOUND WITH A GUNSHOT WOUND TO HEAD

    He is believed to be approximately thirty years of age.

    “Closer inspection found the man to have sustained a single gunshot wound to the head, and he was in a critical condition.”

    Van Reenen said emergency care practitioners worked fervently to stabilize the student-teacher before he was transported rapidly by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further definitive care.

    HE WAS TRANSPORTED RAPIDLY BY AMBULANCE

    “The circumstances surrounding the incident and the events preceding it are unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation.”

    Last month, an off-duty police officer Michael Jameson was hailed as a hero after he was killed outside his daughter’s school for intervening in a hijacking in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.

    THE KZN POLICE OFFICER WITNESSED THE HIJACKING AND INTERVENED

    The fifty-two-year-old Warrant Officer Michael Jameson was picking up his daughter from a school in Umbilo when he noticed a hijacking in progress. He intervened and was shot dead.

    Police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe said Jameson immediately placed himself on duty and responded to the incident.

    “Upon noticing that officer Jameson was armed, the suspects opened fire. Officer Jameson returned fire but sadly succumbed to his injuries on the scene.”

    Mathe said two vehicles, including a vehicle that was hijacked outside the school in Umbilo and another that was hijacked in Hammersdale by the pair, have been found abandoned.

    This was after the pair crashed both vehicles as they were evading arrest.
