    KZN: eThekwini Municipality employee presumed drowned, vehicle found in a river

    An eThekwini Municipality employee who was missing since Saturday night has been presumed to have drowned after his vehicle was discovered submerged in a river in Ogunjini, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on Monday. 

    In the past weekend, KZN was once again battered by heavy rainfall which wreaked havoc in coastal areas. The South African Weather Service had to increase its disruptive rain warning for the province to a red level 10. 

    ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY EMPLOYEE’S CAR FOUND IN KZN RIVER

    According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), a member of the public alerted them after he noticed a portion of the roof of the white Toyota Etios protruding from the river. 

    On arrival, RUSA members reportedly found a large crowd gathered on the banks of the river.

    “It was confirmed that the driver lived in the area and could not be located since Saturday night’s floods. The vehicle was registered to the eThekwini Municipality Water Department. 

    “Two RUSA Members entered the water and swam out to the vehicle. A search was conducted however it was confirmed that the driver was not in the car.”

    The SAPS Search & Rescue Unit is said to have also conducted a search of the river around the car without success.

    DOGS REMAIN WITH DECEASED OWNER

    The body of a man who went missing with his three dogs while hunting was discovered on the side of an unpaved road in Tongaat, KZN on Sunday.

    Tongaat is one of the areas that was ravaged by the torrential rains in the province. A passerby reportedly discovered the man’s body at the link between Maidstone and Brake Village. 

    “It was established that the 65-year-old male and a neighbour left their home in Tongaat – KZN last night to hunt small game in the sugar cane plantation. They split up during the hunt however the elderly male and his three dogs failed to return to his vehicle. 

    “His neighbour walked back to his residence and informed his family who launched a search party. The man’s lifeless body was discovered on the side of an unpaved road this morning. His three three dogs remained with his body.”
