Julius Malema and his high-ranking EFF comrades have submitted a lawyer’s letter this week, in an attempt to BAN sales of a new book. The publication, which was written by investigative journalist Jacques Pauw, contains a number of damning allegations against the Red Berets.
What book does Julius Malema want banned?
Attorneys acting on behalf of Mr. Malema have described the myriad of allegations in Our Poisoned Land as ‘nonsense’. They want a full apology as well as a retraction of the book itself. They have accused the publishers of distributing ‘untrue and defamatory content’.
“We demand the immediate withdrawal of Our Poisoned Land. Both Mr Jacques Pauw and NB Publishers must unconditionally apologise to Julius Malema, Floyd Shivambu, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, and thee EFF as a whole, for their untrue and defamatory allegations.” | EFF letter
Publishers refuse to apologise for new Jacques Pauw book
NB Publishers, meanwhile, have hit back at the far-left political party. In a statement released on Tuesday, they confirm that they will stand by the publication of the book, given that all the information was ‘properly and legally sourced’. The EFF’s demands, therefore, will not be met.
“NB Publishers received an urgent letter of demand on Monday from lawyers representing Julius Malema, Floyd Shivambu, and Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, asking us to withdraw the book. We are standing by the book. The information was properly sourced, and lawfully published.” | NB Publishers
Our Poisoned Land: Julius Malema, EFF weighing-up court case
The Red Berets are now considering legal action against both the publishers and the author. Jacques Pauw, meanwhile, is more than happy to laud up the attention this saga is creating. He’s billed his new title as ‘the book Julius Malema does not want you to see’.
The allegations in question concern Juju’s contentious relationship with Adriano Mazzotti. It’s no secret that the EFF leader and the confirmed tobacco smuggler have close, professional ties – but the extent of their partnership is blown wide open in the book.
- Pauw has also accused EFF figures of ‘using threats’ to try and stop his book from being published
“This is the book Julius Malema does not want you to see. The EFF’s demands are reminiscent of similar attempts, almost exactly five years ago, when the spy boss Arthur Fraser threatened to use intelligence legislation to remove The President’s Keepers from the shelves.” | Jacques Pauw
