    Man burnt to death in Waterloo shack fire

    A fire that gutted several homes in Phase 6, Waterloo in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) led to the death of a 38-year-old man whose charred remains were recovered on Sunday morning. 

    According to private security, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), members were dispatched to Ithemba Lama Africa Road at approximately 01:04 after receiving multiple calls from residents in the area requesting assistance. 

    FIRE GUTS SEVERAL HOMES

    On arrival, Reaction Officers reportedly found that several homes on one property engulfed in flames. Residents were attempting to extinguish the fire with buckets of water. 

    The eThekwini Fire & Rescue Services arrived shortly thereafter and battled the blaze. The charred remains of a man were discovered amongst the debris.

    RUSA spokesperson, Prem Balram said according to the brother of the deceased, he was asleep in the main building when his wife alerted him to the fire. As he exited the main building he found his tenants salvaging valuables from several single room makeshift homes situated in the property. 

    “The fire spread rapidly through the rest of the buildings while the deceased was still inside one of the wood & iron homes. The main building was also extensively damaged in the fire.

    “Circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire were not immediately established.”

    DECOMPOSED BODY FOUND IN WATERLOO, KZN

    A foul odour led to the discovery of a decomposing body of a female traditional healer who last seen a month ago in her home, in Waterloo in KZN.

    According to private security, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), they received a call for assistance at 13:37 on Friday after a relative forcefully gained entry into the house and made the discovery. 

    On arrival, RUSA members were led to a bedroom which was also used as a prayer room. 

    RUSA spokesperson, Prem Balram said the body of the severely decomposed female who was also a traditional healer was located on the floor. She was grasping a bucket. 

    Balram said according to neighbours, they had last seen the woman who is estimated to be in her sixties nearly a month ago. 

    “They contacted her family this afternoon after a foul odour filled the air surrounding her house. Her relatives arrived shortly thereafter and broke a window before entering the residence. The deceased lived alone.”
