Man gets two life sentences for raping neighbour’s child

A man was handed two life sentences at the Booysens Magistrates Court for raping his neighbour’s child.

Takudzwa Chinjeke 28-year-old male from Zimbabwean was found guilty of the rape which took place from 2017 until 2020. He was sentenced on 20 May 2022.

According to police spokesperson Captain Xoli Mbele, the accused, Chinjeke raped a neighbour’s child while she was five years old from 2017 until she was eight years old in 2020 at Kibler Park.

“On 5 February 2020, the victim (8) was playing in the house of the accused with his children when he grabbed her into his storeroom.

“He raped the girl three times on that day,”

    said Mbele.

He explained that the girl went back home and took a bath, and her mother realised that she was not walking properly.

The mother then interrogated her daughter and she revealed the ordeal.

Chinjeke was then apprehended on 9 February 2020 at Kibler Park.

“A good conviction is a result of diligent work done by the Investigating Officer Sergeant Petronella Mathevula of Johannesburg Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS).

“We hope this sentence will scare away would-be offenders from abusing children.”

    said Mbele.

Meanwhile, in Mpumalanga, the mutilated body of a six-year-old girl who went missing was found in a shallow grave a few metres from her home.

Bontle Mashiyane from Mganduzweni near Whiteriver went missing on 30 April and her body was found over the weekend.

Three suspects have since been arrested for the gruesome killing of the girl. They were arrested for her the girl’s murder, rape, and kidnapping.

The neighbours, a woman and her boyfriend, and the parolee, all confessed to the gruesome killing.

Mpumalanga Premier Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane said Mashiyane’s mutilated body was pointed out by one of the suspects.

Furthermore, another two suspects are being questioned by police in connection with the killing, including a traditional healer.

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Nonhlanhla Ncube-Ndaba, has since condemned in the strongest terms the gender-based-violence (GBV) killing of Mashiyane.
