The Cape Town police are appealing to the public for assistance. They are seeking Maria Pop, a 13-year-old girl who was recently reported missing.
MISSING CHILD: MARIA POP FROM KRAAIFONTEIN
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said the missing child was last seen when she left her home in Wallacedene, Kraaifontein on Monday morning, 23 May.
“She was spotted in Cape Town at about 17:00 Monday afternoon but never arrived home,” said Twigg.
Maria’s last known attire is a pair of pink leggings and a multicolour top. She is of a slim build with brown eyes and black hair.
The Kraaifontein Family Violence and Child Protection Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit are handling the matter.
Members of the public with information that could assist the police in their search are asked to contact Crime Stop at 08600-10111 or use the MySAPS App to send information about Maria’s whereabouts.
In an unrelated incident, the Cape Town police are also searching for Shireen Essop, 32, who was last seen in Mitchells Plain on Monday afternoon.
The vehicle she was driving has since been recovered but there is no trace of Essop. Sergeant Twigg previously told The South African that the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
