Three people have appeared before the Kabokweni Magistrate’s court in Mpumalanga in connection with the savage killing of an 18-year-old boy. The accused are the teenager’s own aunt and two other men also believed to be related to him.
“Gladys Mashabane (51), Skholiwe Mbuyane (27) and Sandiso Mbuyane (26) were reminded in custody until 03 June 2022 for a formal bail application which would be held at Masoyi Periodical Court,” said Mpumalanga South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala in a statement on Monday evening, 30 May 2022.
MPUMALANGA COMMISSIONER CONDEMNS TEENAGER’S ASSAULT
According to Mpumalanga SAPS, Andile Sambo, who was a grade 10 learner at Bhekiswako secondary school, was viciously assaulted by his aunt and three men at their home in Numbi Trust. They had accused Sambo of breaking a window and stealing a T-shirt.
“The deceased was allegedly then assaulted with wooden lock and a sjambok on his head and body. He was subsequently taken to Phola Nsikazi clinic for medical treatment were he was certified dead on Wednesday 24 June, hence the arrest of the trio. Mpumalanga’s SAPS Commissioner Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has condemned the teenager’s vicious assault, which later led to his death.
