POLICE ARREST MAN FOR WIFE’S MURDER
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said the Welkom Public Order Police (POP) responded to a mob justice incident where community members allegedly assaulted a man accused of murder.
“On Friday, 09 September 2022 police received a call from about a group of community members who were assaulting a man near Meqheleng Stadium,” he said.
At the scene, police encountered a group of about 40 “angry community members” who accused the suspect of assaulting his wife, Malefu Kgabela. A case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) was opened against him. Unfortunately, the woman died of her injuries in hospital and the charge was upped to murder.
The 46-year-old is expected in the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
In an unrelated matter in Limpopo, a 24-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly murdering her boyfriend in Marapong Township on Saturday night. She reportedly stabbed Charles Kamogelo to death.
“The woman, identified as Emmy Serumula, was traced and arrested. She appeared in Lephalale Magistrate’s Court today facing a charge of murder and the case was postponed to 19 September 2022 for bail application,” said the police’s Lieutenant-Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
