The dead body of a 20-something woman was discovered by farmworkers in Mid Illovo, KwaZulu-Natal on Monday, 8 August. She was burnt beyond recognition.
WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN MID ILLOVO FIELDS
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said the woman was found around midday on Monday.
Farmworkers made the grisly discovery after going to investigate the cause of a fire that was burning in the sugarcane fields.
The woman’s burnt body had wires around her neck. The police believe the wires may be the remnants of a tyre that was placed over her, said Ngcobo.
According to the police report, the only recognisable item of clothing were a pair of black takkies and navy blue socks. “…the rest of her clothing items were not visible,” said Ngcobo.
The Mid Ilovo police are investigating the matter and are appealing to the public to help them track down the relatives of the dead woman.
Members of the public with information that can assist the investigation are encouraged to contact Warrant Officer Sithole at 076-946-2801 or 031-781-1710. Alternatively, tip-offs can be made via the Crime Stop hotline at 08600-10111.
In an unrelated incident in the province, a man in his forties was found dead in a vehicle submerged in a swimming pool in Westville on Wednesday morning, 10 August.
