    South Africa: Today’s latest news and headlines, Saturday, 19 November 2022

    We’ve got the latest news stories and headlines in South Africa on Saturday, 19 November.

    Chaos erupted on Friday as hundreds of employees quit after a ‘hardcore’ ultimatum from Twitter CEO Elon Musk.

    In other news, a SARS official was caught on camera meeting with a Hong Kong citizen to exchange money in order to export Rolex watches.

    Meanwhile, an outbreak of Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHD) in the Western Cape and Northern Cape has been confirmed. 

    The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) became aware after receiving reports of die-offs of wild rabbits and hares in the Karoo areas.

    Greyhound bus carrying 25 passengers on board recently exploded and went up in flames en route to Durban.

    Chaos erupted on Friday as hundreds of employees quit after a ‘hardcore’ ultimatum from Twitter CEO Elon Musk.

    The billionaire demanded in an email they all agree to work ‘long hours at high intensity’ or LEAVE. 

    He tried to get all staff on board with his new vision by clicking on a link in the email or otherwise choosing to leave.

    Watch: Man DISARMS SAPS police officer in viral video

    This is shocking to watch. In a viral video on social media on Thursday, a man is seen disarming a female police officer.

    The officer is seen in the video trying to get the gun from the man, who is clearly unstable on his feet.

    The man is then seen cocking the firearm before pointing it at the two police officers.

    Passengers survive Greyhound bus explosion [VIDEO]

    Greyhound bus carrying 25 passengers on board recently exploded and went up in flames en route to Durban.

    It is reported that the luxurious double-decker coach experienced an engine failure which resulted in an explosion.

    The explosion happened in Vereeniging, Gauteng, amidst travelling from Johannesburg to Durban in KwaZulu-Natal.

    Rabbits are dying from a disease never detected in SA before

    There is an outbreak of Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHD) in the Western Cape and Northern Cape. The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) became aware after receiving reports of die-offs of wild rabbits and hares in the Karoo areas.

    RHD is caused by the calicivirus and has never been detected in South Africa before. “The disease results in a high number of deaths in rabbits and hares and animals die suddenly with bleeding in the organs such as the liver, kidney and spleen,” said DALLRD.

    SARS official in prison for taking bribes to export Rolex watches

    South African Revenue Service (SARS) employee has been sentenced for accepting bribes to export Rolex watches.

    The SARS official, Malatse Kolokoto, worked at Customs at the OR Tambo International Airport.

    Back in 2019, he accepted bribes from a Hong Kong citizen. In exchange for cash, Kolokoto helped Kin-Man Tran to deal in Rolex watches.
