    South Africa: Today’s latest news and headlines, Wednesday, 16 November 2022

    We’ve got all the latest news stories and headlines in South Africa you really need to know on Wednesday, 16 November.

    We have questions. So many questions. A video went viral this morning after a man was seen climbing a lamppost in Johannesburg and stealing a street light from the top of the structure. The footage has left viewers bemused and impressed in equal measure.

    In other news, a young man is STILL missing on Tuesday after he left Morgenzon in Mpumalanga early on Sunday morning but never reached his destination in Groblersdal in Limpopo.

    Meanwhile, a 16-year-old learner from Mqhawe Secondary School in Ntuzuma, KwaZulu-Natal, was expected to appear in court on Tuesday, 15 November, after he allegedly shot and wounded his teacher. 

    Mid-month indications are that there will be a petrol price hike in December, but the news on the diesel front is improving each day.

    Lastly, a cold front with light rain is expected in parts of South Africa TONIGHT.

    We have questions. So many questions. A video is going viral online this morning, after a man was seen climbing a lamppost in Johannesburg and stealing a street light from the top of the structure. The footage has left viewers bemused and impressed in equal measure.

    Of course, the destruction of municipal infrastructure should never be celebrated. Yet, it’s hard to take your eyes off this. Late on Sunday afternoon, the star of the clip – who has since been dubbed ‘Spiderman’ online – is first seen halfway up the lamppost.

    Young man missing – Have you seen him?

    A young man is STILL missing on Tuesday after he left Morgenzon in Mpumalanga early on Sunday morning but never reached his destination in Groblersdal in Limpopo.

    Willem Kruger (29) was last seen attending a bachelor’s party.

    His worried family and friends had shared photos of him and his white Toyota Hilux (Dakar) double-cabin bakkie (FBH 948 L) on social media in the hope that someone with information could help locate him and his vehicle.

    Learner allegedly shoots teacher who reprimanded him for making noise

    A 16-year-old learner from Mqhawe Secondary School in Ntuzuma, KwaZulu-Natal was expected to appear in court on Tuesday, 15 November after he allegedly shot and wounded his teacher. 

    The teacher reportedly reprimanded the learner for making noise while matriculants were writing their exam. According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the incident happened on Thursday 10 October, around 11:30.  

    It is alleged that after being reprimanded the learner threatened the teacher and told him that he would shoot him once the school was out, which he allegedly did.

    Fuel price mid-month update: Diesel forecast GOOD, petrol improving for December

    Mid-month indications are that there will be a petrol price hike in December, but the news on the diesel front is improving each day.

    While it is too early in the month to accurately predict what lies ahead for diesel and petrol prices in December, the latest data available from the Central Energy Fund – as of 14 November – shows contrasting signs.

    Watch: Cold front, rain expected in these parts of SA TONIGHT

    A cold front with light rain is expected in parts of South Africa TONIGHT. 

    According to VoxWeather the cold front is expected to reach the Western Cape on Tuesday evening to bring a few light showers to the coastal areas. 

    “After a sunny start, a few isolated thunderstorms are likely stretching from the Nothern Cape, Western North West over parts of the Free State and into parts of the Eastern Cape.”

    It furthermore indicated that the cold front is most likely to weaken quickly.
