POLICE RETURN FIRE ON SHOOTING ALLEGED ROBBERS
While police were patrolling in the Germiston area they received the information about a courier vehicle being robbed. Police were told four suspects driving a white Audi were involved.
Further information indicated that the vehicle was travelling towards Pretoria along the N3.
“The police followed the vehicle until the suspects took the Marlboro off-ramp. As the police were approaching, the suspects stopped the Audi and jumped out, running in different directions,”said Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo.
It is then that the suspects started shooting at the police who returned fire.
One suspect sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital under police guard. The second suspect was detained.
The other two suspects managed to flee the scene.
Masondo further said, three unlicensed firearms and cellphones to the estimated value of R200 000 were recovered.
“The vehicle driven by the suspects was reportedly hijacked in Yeoville, Johannesburg,”said Lieutenant Colonel Masondo.
Police are still searching for the other two suspects who have managed to evade arrest.
The arrested suspects were charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of a reportedly hijacked vehicle, attempted murder, and possession of suspected stolen property.
