Three people have been killed during a shootout at the Durban city centre taxi rank on Sunday morning.

The shooting incident happened around 11h00 on Sunday. It is believed that the supermarket at the taxi rank was in the process of being robbed.

ALS paramedics said they responded to the shooting incident at around 11h15. They said the shootout happened when police and private security responded to the supermarket robbery.

A shootout ensued and unfortunately, multiple patients sustained gunshot wounds, said ALS paramedics.

Along with other ambulance services, they worked together to treat six patients that were at the scene.
