    Two ER24 paramedics killed in truck accident on the N1

    Two ER24 paramedics were killed in a truck accident on the N1 during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

    TWO ER24 PARAMEDICS KILLED ON THE WAY BACK FROM HOSPITAL

    According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, the accident happened at approximately 00:07 on Tuesday.

    “On the 21st of June, at approximately 00h07, two ER24 paramedics from the Polokwane branch were tragically killed when their ambulance rear-ended a stationary truck on the N1 highway near the Codrington offramp, Limpopo.”

    THE AMBULANCE REAR-ENDED A STATIONARY TRUCK

    He furthermore said the paramedics were returning to their branch after they had completed transporting a patient to a hospital for further treatment.

    “ER24 will be working closely with the relevant authorities to investigate the cause of the collision.

    “We offer our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of our ER24 brothers and wish them peace during this difficult time.”

    Meanwhile, the Limpopo department of transport & community safety MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya conveyed her condolences to the families of the two paramedics.

    THE COUNTRY WOKE UP TO THE SAD NEWS

    “It is disturbing to wake up to the sad news of the passing of emergency workers who died in the line of duty.

    “These are the same people we rely on to save lives on the roads. We call on our drivers to be extra cautious and drive within limits.”

    Spokesperson Mike Maringa said both paramedics, the driver, and the passenger, were killed on impact.

    Earlier this month, two paramedics were robbed at gunpoint on the R510 between Mogwase and Rustenburg while trying to save a critically ill patient.

    PARAMEDICS WERE TRYING TO REVIVE A CRITICALLY ILL PATIENT

    According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, two ER24 paramedics were robbed at gunpoint on the R510 between Mogwase and Rustenburg while transporting a critically ill patient.

    He said paramedics were busy transferring a critically ill patient along the R510 to his home from a hospital in Rustenburg when the patient’s vital signs began to diminish rapidly.
