UPDATE: Another three arrested for MURDER of German tourist

Police have arrested another three suspects during the course of the week for the alleged murder of a German tourist.

LAW ENFORCEMENT TEAM TRACES AND ARRESTS SUSPECTS THIS WEEK

Police sniffed out the suspects from various places in Mpumalanga on Wednesday and Thursday.

This after German tourists were attacked near the Kruger National Park’s Numbi Gate last month, leaving one tourist dead.

But police started rolling out arrests on Wednesday, starting with a suspect that was cornered at a retail store in Nelspruit.

An intelligence-driven operation was conducted by members of the Mpumalanga provincial task team. This included the Piet Retief Crime Intelligence and Piet Retief detectives, said police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.

The multidisciplinary team responded to information on the whereabouts of a suspect who was driving a silver-grey VW Polo.

“He was cornered by the members at the said retail store and upon investigation, it was established that he could be involved in a string of business robberies around Piet Retief, Ermelo and Bethal.”

One of the suspects was allegedly found in possession of a white Toyota Tazz. The car is believed to have been used during the brutal murder of the German tourist, said Mohlala.

“A firearm with its serial numbers filed off was recovered during the arrest as well as about eleven live ammunition and some jamming devices were found in his possession.”

The third suspect is believed to have been working with the other two alleged perpetrators. But they were involved in multiple house robberies around the Gert Sibande District, said Mohlala.

Police have already made their first arrest. In October, they arrested Napoleon Joseph Nyalunga for allegedly killing the German tourist.

Meanwhile, two suspects, 43, were arrested on Friday. They are also alleged to be involved in a spate of business robberies around Piet Retief. They were detained in Matsulu and Tekwane West during a sting operation, said Mohlala.
