Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead on 26 October 2014 at the home of his girlfriend and singer Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus, Gauteng in an alleged botched robbery.

Five men are on trial for the murder of the soccer star, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli. They face charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a licence and possession of ammunition. All the five men pleaded not guilty.

Court proceedings in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria were adjourned for a short while on Monday, 14 November for counsel and Presiding Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela to go through a letter by Kelly Khumalo’s lawyer Magdalene Moonsamy.

In the letter Moonsamy asked to be admitted to the proceedings (she was a watching brief in the ongoing matter and was asked to leave court earlier this year during the early stages of the trial).

Moonsamy also asked for copies of the case dockets in the matter. Furthermore she also requested transcripts of the proceedings including those of the bail application of accused 2 Bongani Ntanzi.

Both defence counsel opposed Moonsamy’s application and the court stood by an earlier ruling regarding Moonsamy’s presence in court as she was asked to leave proceedings earlier this year during the early stages of the trial in April.
