Watch: VICIOUS mass brawl erupts inside Western Cape high school

Wild scenes recorded inside Hoërskool George last week have gone viral online, after a mass brawl exploded in this Western Cape classroom. More than a dozen participants can be seen getting caught up in the high school scuffle, which has resulted in a number of suspensions.

The footage, quite simply, has to be seen to be believed. Fists fly, learners tumble over tables, and chaos consumes the pupils. It’s alleged that the fighting began as a result over something that happened ‘between friend groups’ over the weekend. It then spilled over into the school.

An official statement has been published by Hoërskool George officials. They have condemned the incident – and its subsequent leaking online. According to the principal, a small group of students who have ‘no interest in learning’ are responsible for causing this disruption

“This fight is an isolated incident that happened before the start of the school day. The situation was defused and the parties involved isolated, so that an investigation could be carried out into the incident.”

“This stems from incidents that happen between groups at weekends and then spill over to the school. We have a small group of learners who have no academic interest at school, with little to no interest from their parents. The evidence is clearly reflected in their academic results.”

“It is regrettable that there are people in the community who are just waiting for an opportunity to post these types of incidents on social media and thus spread negativity, seek sensation and put institutions in a bad light and discredit them.”

Posting a response on Facebook, a parents of one of the children involved also shared his views on the matter. He did not contest the principal’s version of events, and accepted that his son’s behaviour ‘was not acceptable’. However, the public backlash has upset some families.

“Unfortunately, my son was also part of the incident, and I do not condone his behavior or that of anyone involved. I appreciate that clarity was given about the events, because we were, of course, expecting are very negative comments from people who did not have knowledge of the incident.”
