    Water supply interruptions in THESE Cape Town areas today

    Seven areas in Cape Town will face water supply disruptions on Wednesday, 26 October.

    The shutdown will last three hours

    The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate say it will be conducting a dummy shutdown on its 915mm diameter water supply main.

    The areas that will be impacted from 10:00 until 13:00 are:

    • Lotus River;
    • Ottery;
    • Parkwood Estate;
    • Grassy Park;
    • Fairways;
    • Plumstead and;
    • Wynberg.

    While the water supply will be disrupted in the aforementioned areas, there is a possibility that the pressure in the immediate surroundings will be lower.

    Why is the dummy shutdown being conducted?

    The City said in a statement that the work will allow the maintenance team to see what course of action to take to address the current leak on the water main.

    Acting Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation Councillor Siseko Mbandezi says the shutdown will assist with assessing the capability of the water supply network for rerouting.

    This is being done in preparation for an actual shutdown before making tankers and standpipes available, said Mbandezi.

    “This is a very important exercise as it provides an indication of the extent of the impact and what mitigation measures need to be implemented and what the possibilities are to maintain the water supply to these areas,”

    Mbandezi said.

    City asks residents to store water

    The City has requested that residents store water in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this time.

    Residents are also requested to ensure that all taps are CLOSED. This must be done to prevent the loss of water and/or damage when the supply is restored.
