The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued another Yellow Level 2 wind warning for the Northern Cape and Western Cape on Tuesday, 30 August.

WIND WARNING EXTENDED
The weather warning is valid from 15:00 on Tuesday until 00:00 on Thursday, 1 September.
Near gale force, southeasterly winds of 55 to 65km/h are expected between Alexander Bay and Gansbaai from Tuesday until early on Wednesday.
“In addition to that strong winds are expected over the western parts of the Namakwa district leading to possible dust storms along the Namakwa coast resulting in localised reduced visibility,” said the weather service.
The wind is expected to change direction on Wednesday with a strong to gale force easterly wind of 50 to 65km/h expected in Plettenberg Bay.
The potential impact of the severe weather includes:
- The difficulty navigating at sea.
- Small vessels and personal watercraft like kayaks are at risk of taking on water and capsizing.
- The possible build-up of sand along coastal routes in False Bay, especially the R310 on Tuesday.
- Possible dust storms along the Namakwa coast from Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
- High-sided vehicles may encounter difficulty along the N7 along the West Coast from Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
